Group Meeting: Artificial Intelligence: the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Details

The evenings are getting darker and it seems like the long hot summer is over...but Guildford & Woking Humanists has a fascinating subject for this month's meeting. We'll be welcoming Professor Paul Krause from the University of Surrey, who will be speaking to us about artificial intelligence.

Professor Krause is Director of Research in the Department of Computer Science, University of Surrey. He graduated in Pure Mathematics and Experimental Physics at Exeter University in 1977. His talk will focus on the interface between computer systems and human society. He believes that computer systems and AI can help our understanding of many of society’s problems, but that the challenges are considerable.

“I do want to emphasise the positives, but it will always remain a matter of our own choice whether we make this a positive opportunity or a negative one.”

Whether you're happy chatting with Siri, Google or Alexa, are concerned about how big data and AI might be influencing your decisions, or you fear the rise of our machine overlords, this meeting is for you. We hope to see you there!
