Clojure(Script) Web Applications

Details

Boston Clojure Group Meetups are held at Akamai (http://www.akamai.com) , 150 Broadway Cambridge, on the second floor (Room 200D).

Please join us for a night of Clojure related discussion and group activities. Pizza and drinks provided by Akamai.

Meet & Greet w/ Pizza starts at 6:30, agenda to start no later than 7:00.

Agenda: Let's talk Web!

The Clojure web application ecosystem offers a wealth of options, from complete "batteries included" frameworks, to individual libraries for specific uses.

Some ideas for activities:

• Use Luminus (http://www.luminusweb.net/) to create a basic working web application in seconds. We'll run the generated app, and make a few changes to it, in order to understand the connection between our edits and the resulting web page. We'll look at the generated source code and talk about what role each part plays in a web application. We can also talk about Luminus options to generate more complete and sophisticated web applications.

• Discuss web application concepts: HTML/CSS, AJAX, XHR, SPAs, REST APIs, GraphQL, WebSockets, Web containers, Routing, Relational and NoSQL Data Stores, etc. We can do beginner, advanced, or in-between depending on group interest.

• Discuss the pros and cons of the many Clojure libraries and frameworks for the above "dimensions" of a web app. Which have you found appealing and why?

I'm not a "front-end" developer. If you are, please attend and share your knowledge with the group! We need your active participation.

Future meeting ideas will be discussed over the meetup board and in our Google discussion group: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/boston-clojure .
