Summer 2014 San Diego 3d Printing Meetup

Details

"Day Before Meetup" Update:

• Re:Confusion on different meetup groups and overlapping 3D printer related events.

A few people pointed out some confusion caused by the two 3D printing related meetup groups that happen to be scheduled for the same date and time. Unfortunately the availability of our venue (the New School of Architecture & Design) dictated the date for the meetup and it happend to overlap with the monthly recurring FabLab 3D Printing Meetup. In the future I'll work closer with the FabLab Organizers to ensure that the "3D printing San Diego" meetup and the 3d printing related events scheduled @ FabLab don't conflict.

• More detailed Map

We've made a google map to make it easier to know where best to park and find the entrance to the event. It's not hard to find. Specifically, you're looking for this door (clearly labeled "Auditorium". It's located about halfway along the West Side of the Building.

• Show and Tell:

If you're planning/interested in participating in our microcontest (for "fastest" or "best print") or just doing show-and-tell with (one of) your printer(s). Please do let me know. We'll make sure to have a table and power setup for you.

-------

Come join us for the summer edition of the 3D printing San Diego Meetup Group. We're excited to announce that we'll be hosting the event at the New School of Architecture and Design (http://newschoolarch.edu/) in downtown San Diego. We'll have additional information on how to get there, where to park and find the facility as we get closer to the event.

It's great to be in a facility that can handle our size and it's an added bonus to see just how sophisticated the school's approach is to supporting great design with digital manufacturing technology.

Erik Luhtala, the Manager of the Materials Lab at the school will be giving a overview of the facility's mission and an introduction to how they use all of this great technology. Then we'll take smaller groups on a tour of the actual facility floor. The tour will pass by all sorts of interesting equipment, including large format CNC Mills an EOS P100 SLS Machine, and some robotics made at the Lab. You'll get some perspective on all of the creative thinking that goes on in this type of environment and It should be a treat.

As before, we'll have a Kinect Capture station setup for those who are interested in getting captured, or learning how to make decent captures. If we get lucky (again) hopefull we'll have a capture completed, processed and printed during the meetup.

As always, We're open and encouraging of those who would like to bring their printers, to do so. Interest in these machines an technology continues to grow, and you can help educate and inform by sharing demonstrating how you use your machines. If you're interested in bringing your printer, just let me know, and I'll make sure to have ample space and power.

Stay Tuned for Updates and we hope to see you there.

-Eric
