NFTs in the Metaverse - at the intersection of Blockchain and AR/VR

Non-Fungible-Tokens, or NFTs, were mentioned twice during October's Meta Connect keynote presentation (formerly Oculus Connect). This put the Blockchain technology in the spotlight for the AR/VR community, in a way that 2021's hype around NFT art may not have already done.

So for January's virtual event we're diving into the intersection of NFTs and the Metaverse. In addition we'll hear about the use of VR for Stroke Rehabilitation, and an update from Eirmersive.

We're also trying a new platform - an audio based meetup in Twitter Spaces. We'll be keeping it conversational with a lively mix of panels and presentations, with audience participation encouraged throughout.

PANEL: ARTISTS IN THE Metaverse_____________________________

Our first panel discussion will feature three Irish NFT artists, each of whom have been exploring how to use the Metaverse to exhibit their work:

[1] Niamh Aughney is an NFT Pop Artist and co-Founder of DAO The 50. Among collectors of her art is American billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban.

[2] e_0_i_n who is a multidisciplinary artist bridging the gap between the analogue and digital realms by blending photography, painting, sculpture, VR and digital renders.

[3] Susan Sweeney is a mixed media artist, lecturer and research practitioner based in Dublin and Nice. Susan was recently shortlisted for the Galleries without walls exhibition which questioned whether NFTs are the next frontier for artists, or is this a case of the emperor’s new clothes?

[N] Gary Mc Ginty is a 3D & NFT Artist who served as Art Director on Ridley Scott's The Last Duel.

PRESENTATION: VR FOR STROKE REHABILITATION_________

[4] Jibraan Esoof is a doctor working at the National Rehabilitation hospital. His interest within Medicine lies in stroke rehabilitation in Health & ICT while his area of research revolves around MedTech innovation in artificial Intelligence, wearable health sensors, connected Health and personalised medicine. Jibraan will talk about VR for Stroke Rehabilitation.

PRESENTATION: EIRMERSIVE INITIATIVES___________________

[5] Camille Donegan is an Independent VR Producer and a Director at Eirmersive - 'The Voice of the Immersive Sector in Ireland'. Camille will update us on initiatives currently underway at Eirmersive, and tell us about new developments for 2022.

PANEL: CREATORS IN THE Metaverse_______________________

Our second panel discussion will feature a group of people who are exploring the new frontier of content creation for the metaverse, with a focus on visual identity and representation of self:

[6] Ciara Sheahan, co-founder at Orb Media is on a Metaverse mission to displacing 2D e-commerce with immersive 360/VR shopping experiences. Ciara previously featured as a property consultant on RTE's This Crowded House.

[7] Aileen Carville is CEO & Founder at SKMMP, a Top 10 FashionTech company worldwide. SKMMP created the 1st wave Virtual Showroom with high fidelity visual and 3D asset generation for Luxury Brands. They pioneered the first Fashion Week AR holograms in February 2018 at LFW and PFW. And now SKMMP is poised to enable Brands to create NFTs and traverse into the Metaverse. Aillen also serves as NFT / Metaverse Ambassador to In|Rift Marketplace Paris.

[8] Paula Marie Kilgarriff is an International Lecturer of Fashion Marketing, Branding & Retail Technology at TUD. She specializes in Sustainable Fashion Retail Innovation for Metaverse & Web 3.0. Additionally she is Head of Social NFT & Creative Partnerships at Clout.art

[9] Rafael Pagés is Co-founder and CEO of Volograms, a startup simplifying volumetric video capture, "the best way to capture real humans for AR & VR, and other immersive technologies". Volograms is the creator of Volu, the first mobile app that allows you to capture, play and share volograms simply using your smartphone.
