Pre-Halloween Party &/or Old-School Roller Skating at Skateworld (Costumes = ++)
Details
Okay, ladies - It's time to officially get excited!
So, our monthly group event for October will be a pre-Halloween party and/or old-school roller skating at Skateworld in Linda Vista from 6:30-9:00pm on Saturday, October 21st!!
IMPORTANT So Please Note: when I did my in-person site visit, I 100% confirmed that this would be a free event for all non-skaters; however, this has changed.
There is now a $15 admission fee for everyone (ie: all non-skaters) & would be $20 if skating.
My personal suggestion/ recommendation would be buy your ticket (which will then also take care of the waiver) prior to your arrival at Skateworld on Saturday.
Both are very easy to do & quick and would speed up the process once you get there, while also being one less thing you’d have to worry about.
***Ticket & waiver can both be done in less than a minute…,All attendees, on main page for Skateworld (link below): “Purchase Tickets”— “Public Skate”—“Sat, 10/21” —Timeslot beginning at 6:30pm—“Admission” $15: all non-skaters or skaters with own skates; “Admission + Skate Rental” $20: all other skaters. If undecided about skating & want to check out the venue first, that’s entirely up to you.
-I am sorry about this unfortunate change & unexpected cost but want all expected attendees to be aware of this prior to arrival. This is/was obviously completely outside of my control & am glad that I caught when I did.
So, nevertheless, for expected event attendees:
Costumes would be fun and encouraged, but if not your thing and choose to show up as nothing other than yourself, that's 100 percent fine too! I will NOT be skating myself, so that’s entirely okay as well. That said, I will definitely be dressing up, but top secret until event- time reveal :)
I actually did an in-person site visit for this one & am glad that I did, since I hadn't been to a rink in about 35 years (yep, definitely in the 40+ club here)...
I could see group members falling into three camps here:
1.) Those who were hardcore roller skating enthusiasts from its heyday in the 1980s;
2.) Those who have probably been to a skating rink but not in a very long time and for whom this particular activity never ranked in their top 10 list of favorite past-times (I, personally, fall here)...
3.) And, some of you youngsters who might have missed this fad/craze/popular retro era entirely!!
That said, regardless of where you fall, I still think this could be a fun group event for all!
While this space might has not changed too drastically since circa 1988, I would argue that some upgrades have probably been made in an attempt to more-or-less keep up with the times.
The venue is not huge, although the actual rink is a decent size. And, while hard to tell from the photos, there is a lot of seating area all around the entire rink, so the setup could be kind of cool, if the main area were to get too crowded and/or if women in the group were skating. There was a DJ and music at the time of my visit too.
Anyway, here's the link to Skateworld: SKATEWORLD - San Diego, California that you can check out.
Final notes:
1.) All photos below were taking with the camera on my cell so should be a fairly accurate representation of the venue;
2.) This is obviously a family/kid-friendly environment so keep that in mind if deciding upon a costume, and it's also alcohol-free.
3.) I will gladly challenge anyone to a round of Ms. Pacman, since the last time I checked, I was still the reigning world champ :)
Finally, mark yourself as "attending" if you plan on showing up - regardless of whether or not you plan on skating or being in costume or are currently undecided on either/both fronts.
As always, let me know if you have any questions about this particular event. I am hopeful that this will appeal to many of you - just come with a laidback, fun, and open-minded attitude, in addition to a willingness to transport yourself a few decades back in time:)
If nothing else, this event is a little "outside-the-box" & something different that most probably haven't done (if ever) in a long time :) And, costumes & Halloween are always fun- at least I think so!! :)
Cheers,
Emily
