Hello Scala Members!

**Please note: this Meetup has changed location and date. We are now at Mobify on May 21st.

We've got a special visitor from Typesafe this month joining us on Thursday, May 21st @ 6pm, located at Mobify Headquarters in Yaletown. Jamie Allen will be introducing Akka Streams and showing us the many cool things we can do with Streams.

About Akka Streams:

Akka Streams with Scala and Java
Data is increasingly being modeled as streams, and as a result, more frameworks and libraries are providing capabilities to manage data as such. With the release of the Reactive Streams v1.0 specification, we now have the ability to leverage standardized streaming libraries that are asynchronous and provide back pressure. This talk will showcase the capabilities of Akka Streams, and demonstrate usage from both the Scala and Java APIs.

About Jamie:

Jamie Allen is the Senior Director of Global Servies for Typesafe, the company behind the Scala programming language, Akka concurrency toolkit and Play web framework. Jamie has been coding in Scala and actor-based systems since 2009, and is the author of Effective Akka book from O’Reilly as well as the coauthor of the upcoming Reactive Design Patterns book from Manning.

As always we want to encourage open discussion at our Meetups. We'd like to invite all of you to bring any projects or topics you want to share. After Jamie's talk we'll hold a quick vote for 6-minute topics and presentations. We understand there were some concerns about topic length at the last Meetup, so this time we'll be addressing those concerns with time-boxing.

Save the date! May 21st @ Mobify! Doors open at 6pm. See you there.

Cheers,
Justin
