Come and join Shadow Puppetry and Gamelan of Java, featuring renowned Indonesian shadow puppet master Woro Mustiko Siwi.

Experience the beauty of wayang kulit (traditional Javanese shadow puppetry) accompanied by a live gamelan ensemble in a rare one-hour adaptation of this centuries-old art form. Inspired by stories from the Ramayana and Mahabharata, the performance combines intricate shadow puppets, music, storytelling, and Javanese cultural traditions into an immersive experience.
This special presentation will be performed in English and followed by a Q&A discussion with Woro Mustiko Siwi and UCR’s Javanese Gamelan Ensemble director Joko Sutrisno.

About Woro Mustiko Siwi
Woro Mustiko Siwi is one of the few women in Indonesia to gain national and international recognition as a dhalang (shadow puppet master), a field traditionally dominated by men. Her performances preserve and reimagine the rich storytelling traditions of Java while making them accessible to contemporary and international audiences.
