About us

A tea ceremony is not merely about drinking tea.

From the preparation to the final bow, every movement is guided by intention, rooted in the spirit of tea and the history of Japan. This ritual has been preserved and performed for over 400 years.

This group gathers people who are curious about that world. I’m Atsumi Anna Tanaka, a Japanese tea ceremony performer from Okinawa, Japan, and I host “400 Years of Tea” sessions in a few formats:

Full ceremony: an intimate seating of four to five guests, about 40 minutes
Hands-on matcha session: learn to whisk your own bowl of tea
Performance and tasting: observe the ceremony while enjoying a small sampling of tea
Short seminar: the history, etiquette, and meaning behind each gesture

Sessions take place in gardens, museums, cultural centers, and other settings, indoors or out.

No experience is needed;
come with curiosity.

My recent collaborations include Brooklyn Fashion Labo (New York), Tokyo X (Houston), the US Department of Defense DoDEA Pacific Region
