What we’re about
I was diagnosed over a year ago at the age of 44. There seems to be a lack of support for adults with autism in the local areas and for that reason I am keen to establish a group where people can meet to share experiences, ask and answer questions and learn more about themselves.
Imagine a small group of people who are able to help each other, offering advice and ideas, listening and empathising and really appreciating what each other are going through. I would love to make this a reality starting in 2022.
Group meetings would be a blend of learning, discussion and a chance to socialise. Everyone can be themselves without the usual pressures of having to conform to society’s expectations. People can talk lots, little or not at all and nobody will judge or criticise.
Our conversations will remain confidential within the group. We will be able to share our worries and grievances as well as our successes and personal achievements. Above all we will help each other to live rich and happy lives knowing that we are not alone and have a support network on the doorstep.
If you are undiagnosed, diagnosed or trying to get diagnosed, this group could be perfect for you, offering a chance to :
- Learn more about autism
- Develop strategies to cope with everyday situations
- Talk and be listened to by people who really understand
- Meet people and build relationships
- Support others and feel supported yourself
I am genuinely excited at the idea of “our” group.
Do get in touch if you are interested in joining.
