Title: Predictive Query Processing On Moving Objects

Abstract:

A fundamental category of location based services relies on predictive queries which consider the anticipated future locations of users.

Predictive queries attracted the researchers’ attention as they are widely used in several applications including traffic management, routing, location-based advertising, and ride sharing. This talk aims to present a generic and scalable system for predictive query processing on moving objects, e.g, vehicles, named, iRoad. Unlike previous work in supporting predictive queries, the target of the proposed system is to:

(a) support long-term query prediction as well as short term prediction,

(b) scale up to large number of moving objects, and (c) efficiently support different types of predictive queries, e.g., predictive range, KNN, and aggregate queries. (d) Support prediction for objects travel on road network.

Biography:

Abdeltawab Hendawi is a PhD candidate in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota.

His research interests are centered around database management, query processing, spatio-temporal data, and volunteered geographic information. His PhD focuses on predictive query processing on moving objects. His work has been recognized by the best paper award in MobiGIS ACM SIGSPATIAL 2012, and best overall poster award in U-Spatial 2013.

Prior to joining Minnesota, He obtained his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees with honors in Computer Science from Cairo University in Egypt. During his work in Cairo University, he got best TA award and a four year fellowship to fund his PhD 2009-2012.

The seminars will be held at 12:30 on Wednesdays in TLB 301A, and this
quarter we will aim to conclude by 1:30.

Coffee and treats will be provided during the seminar; attendees are also welcome to bring their
lunch.
