Fri, August 1 - Paddle Swan Pond & Swan River, Dennis

The paddle planned for Swan River July 1 was blown off the water, so we'll try it again.

Pictured, is the very easy launch into Swan Pond from a Dennis town landing on Clipper Lane, off Upper County Road...sandy and shallow, with the ability to back your car right up to the launch area.

We'll paddle through Swan Pond and down Swan River to it's end and take a break just before reaching the ocean. At that point in the paddle, I used to say "We can take a break here. The current can be very swift past this point, but you are adults...make your own decision". That ship has sailed down the river : ) When paddling with this group, no one goes into the swift current. Folks got in trouble the 2 times we paddled here last year.

Swan River has the advantage of an exceptionally easy launch, parking with no sticker limitations and there is always enough water, regardless of the tide. The launch site is also really close to Clancy's, a restaurant with outdoor dining with a view of the river you just paddled. The food used to be better than it seems to be now.

All paddles are for experienced and energetic paddlers. This is not a place to "get experience on the water"...you need that experience before paddling with this group.

DIRECTIONS: From the east, using Rt 6, take exit 10 and drive south on Rt 124 for about 2.5 miles to Rt.28. Take right / go west on Rt 28 about 1.6 miles and take the right fork onto Upper County Rd. Prior to taking the right fork onto Upper County, see a Friendly's on the left and cross Division St.) Go 0.4 mile on Upper County and turn right on Clipper Lane East. Continue on Clipper Lane West for 0.3 mile to the sand parking lot on the left.

From the east, not using Rt.6, take Rt 39 to the intersection of Rt 124 and go less than 1.5 mile to Rt 28 and follow above directions.

From the west, using Rt.6. Take Exit 9 and go south on Rt. 134 to the third stop light (get in left lane). Go left on Upper County Rd and drive for 1.5 miles. Take left on Clipper Lane East, which joins Clipper Lane West. It's about 0.3 mile on Clipper Lane to the sand parking lot on the left.

See you in the water no later than 10:00. No guests on paddles.
