From Technical Writing to Content Development
Summary: Living in constant change means having unlimited possibilities. It is important to remember no entity can stay at the same stage of development. It either goes backward or forward. Being a Technical Writer in an actively growing team might become demanding when one needs to grasp new skills or to learn new technologies. However, it gives an opportunity to steer your career in different directions, still staying committed to your roots.
I am going to tell you a story of how one particular team changed its profile over the years by acquiring new technologies and tools and also by growing new roles. In 10 years this team grew from being a Technical Writing department to the biggest part of an Education organization (still having Technical Writers at its core).
Technical Writers are like Swiss Army knives. With their flexibility and ability to adapt, they can fill as many roles as there are in the Technical Communication world. They do not just write, they contribute to developing the content.
