Enjoy a 8-10 mile hike at 3-3.5 mph. in a very scenic and unique wildlife refuge in southern Palm Beach County. Everyone must be able to hike the entire route--this hike is not for beginners. On this hike you will see rare birds nesting in their natural environment and other wildlife as well. The Visitor's Center at Loxahatchee was recently renovated. The inside displays contain magnificent examples of wildlife found in the area and show a history of the feeding waters for the Everglades (which Loxahatchee is part of) from prehistoric times through the present. The hike should last about 4 hours. BRING at least TWO LARGE BOTTLES OF WATER,SNACKS,RAIN PONCHO(no umbrellas),and SUN SCREEN. Parking fee: $10.00 or FREE if you have NPS pass or Loxahatchee Pass. Directions: The refuge is located about 10 miles west of Boynton Beach, Florida. It is accessible from Interstate 95 and the Florida Turnpike by going west on either Boynton Beach Blvd or Atlantic Ave in Delray Beach, until you reach Highway 441/State Road 7. From Boynton Beach Blvd., proceed south on Hwy 441/SR7 for two miles and turn west onto Lee Road. From Atlantic Ave. turn North on 441 and left onto Lee Rd
