We'll explore, via a boardwalk, each wetland community. Both are magnificent and offer opportunities to view birds and other wildlife in their natural habitat. Over 140 species of birds have been spotted at the Wakodahatchee Wetlands. If you haven't yet been to Green Cay, the word "awesome" applies. Green Cay is a wetland ecosystem with the appearance of a movie set. It contains 100 acres of wetland which was once a farm. Water is pumped into the wetland from a nearby wastewater treatment plant. As the water flows through the wetland, the plants and soil naturally filter the water and reintroduce it into the water cycle. View native water fowl and other wildlife in their natural environment, close up. The birds are used to being viewed, so expect be ignored. Stroll at a leisurely pace along its 1.5 mile boardwalk. Take a camera. Bring a snack. Drinking water is plentiful in both locations, as are the restrooms. Together, both locations make a magnificent outing for our group. Inclement weather cancels.
