Free visit to a 'Chip Shop' entirely made of Felt and other nearby galleries

Details
Bourdon Street Chippy (NOT A REAL CHIP SHOP) but an interactive, hand-stitched fish and chip shop in the heart of London, allows us to visit a nostalgic, tactile reimagining of one of Britain’s most beloved culinary institutions. The exhibit will feature over 65,000 individually hand-crafted felt pieces all with signature attention to detail.
Over more than a decade, the creator has travelled the world, creating life-sized versions of everyday spaces – from corner shops to supermarkets, and pharmacies - each one a fully immersive installation complete with thousands of artworks, all meticulously handcrafted from felt (and available to buy directly from the artist).
Inside The Bourdon Street Chippy, we will be transported to the local fish and chip shop, but with everything created in fabric. While relaxing on the hand-made banquette seating, we can enjoy the walls filled with felted menus, shop signs, and even a gallery of sewn portraits of the chippy’s famous former patrons.
This gallery is also exceptionally close to numerous other excellent free galleries with often changing exhibitions. I will plan out a short route to follow once we have finished at the Chip shop (probably no longer than 45 minutes or so at the chip shop).
After all that, we can end with an entirely optional tea, drink, or snack in one of the many establishments in the area. This will offer a great opportunity to relax and chat socially after what should be an interesting afternoon.
The exhibition and gallery visits are free, but the usual £1.50 group maintenance fee applies and is non refundable. Please note that Meetup now adds about £0.60 to this as well. (If you pay cash on the day, it’s £2.50).
As always, you are participating at your own risk.
We would appreciate it if you changed your RSVP no more than 2 days before the event should you find you can no longer attend. No shows or cancellations on the day may result in you being removed from the group.
