Free film at BFI Southbank; Pride and Prejudice with short introductory talk
Details
A wonderful opportunity to visit the BFI Southbank (known previously as the National Film Theatre) to see a classic film with a short introductory talk.
Pride and Prejudice is a 1940's stylish Hollywood take on a British classic, in honour of Jane Austen’s 250th birthday.
Adorned in classical Hollywood theatrics, Aldous Huxley and Jane Murfin’s lavish adaptation of Jane Austen’s most famous work sees Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet transported to Victorian-era Britain, where they navigate marriage and the mores of the day. This film version remains a sharp and stirring work, and a testament to the power of Jane Austen’s storytelling.
Free for the over-60s, and I have obtained 4 seats for the first three over 60's to RSVP. After that, over 60's can still go free, but you need to book by phone or in person only, otherwise normal matinee price applies. The box office number is 020 7960 2102 any time Monday to Saturday from 12pm to 7pm, or Sundays from 12pm to 6pm and you are booking for Monday 15 December 2025 14:00 NFT1
Under 60's can book online at the normal price of £8.50 and are very welcome to join.
After the film, we can end with an entirely optional tea, drink, or snack at the cafe within the BFI. This will offer a great opportunity to relax and chat socially after what should be an interesting afternoon. The Christmas market should also be on along that part of the Southbank.
Although the film is free or £8.50, in addition the usual £1.50 group maintenance fee applies and is non refundable. Please note that Meetup now adds about £0.60 to this as well. (If you pay cash on the day, it’s £2.50).
As always, you are participating at your own risk.
As the film is ticketed and I have a limited number of tickets, we would appreciate it if you changed your RSVP no more than 2 days before the event should you find you can no longer attend. No shows or cancellations on the day may result in you being removed from the group.
