Guildhall Exhibition followed by Pearly Kings And Queens Festival
Details
Please join me for a visit to the Guildhall to see the temporary Underground (and Surface) Exhibition that brings together large-scale Tube station paintings with a layered soundscape (further details below). After visiting the exhibition, we will attend a once a year only special event. From 1.30pm, pearly kings and queens from across London and beyond, wearing their iconic hand-sewn pearl-embroidered costumes, will assemble in the Guildhall Yard. We will get to see
frivolities such as maypole and Morris Dancing unfold, alongside hearty renditions of cockney standards like The Lambeth Walk and Knees Up Mother Brown. Going from previous years, there is also various mayors/Scouts/Chelsea Pensioners in attendance.
Please note that this second event lasts about an hour.
Prior to the Pearly Kings And Queens Festival, I have admission tickets into the Guildhall so we can see the temporary Underground (and Surface) Exhibition. This will allow us to step into the sensory world of London’s Tube in an immersive exhibition by Jock McFadyen RA and Jem Finer of The Pogues.
The exhibition brings together Jock McFadyen’s large-scale Tube station paintings with a layered soundscape by Jem Finer of The Pogues, composed from field recordings on the Northern and Central lines.
Both the above events are free but a £2.50 non refundable (even if you cancel) maintenance fee (to help pay Meetup fees) applies and meetup will also charge you a small amount on top.
We would appreciated it if you cancelled no later than 2 days before the event and to please avoid cancelling on the day as that may get you removed from the group.
We are meeting by 11.45 latest and the tickets for the Guildhall exhibition are booked for 12. Please therefore be slightly early or on time. We will be leaving the meeting point at 11.45 sharp to visit the exhibition and you are unlikely to be able to find us or contact us if you are late.
As this event occurs over lunch time, you may want to bring a sandwich or snack with, as hopefully there will be a short time between the two events when we can eat such. After the second event, if time permits, we can get a drink or tea so that we get a great opportunity to have a good chat about what we have just seen and experienced.
