About us
Welcome! This is a new group for 45+ people who want to enjoy great events and meet old and new friends in a relaxed, no-drama environment. It's run by experienced Meetup organizers. Check us out! No group fee due for the first three months and only $10 CAD/year after that.
Our organizers bring their knowledge and enthusiasm from hosting popular, successful events in various other meetup groups, including the usual fun things (dinners, coffees, movies, walks, games, book discussions) as well as the less typical, like dancing to live music, cooking lessons, scooter tours, midnight kayaking under the full moon, Whitecap watch parties, and happy hours at high-end venues.
A note on the group's annual fee: We very much appreciate if you choose to pay the annual fee promptly upon joining, but also completely understand that you might want to take some time to check out a few of our events first. You have three months to pay from the date you’re approved to join. Payment options are via e-mail transfer or cash (in person). You’ll receive info about where to send the e-transfer when you’re approved to join.

Dancing to The Famous Players cover band
Grand Villa Casino, 4331 Dominion Street, BC V5G 1C7, Burnaby, BC, CAHere's an experimental short-notice opportunity to go dancing on Friday night at the Grand Villa Casino in Burnaby. Cover band, but no cover to get in.
This is a favourite band for one of our members, Sophia, who says that some people follow them around as they play at different casinos.
They look very danceable on this video.More band info here.

The Rocket Revellers and happy hour at The Cambie
The Cambie, 300 Cambie Rd, Vancouver, BC, CAHere's a chance to enjoy the Rocket Revellers at The Cambie!
This is a fantastic and high-energy local band well worth seeing in person. They describe their repertoire as a mix of Western swing, rockabilly, country and blues. More band info here.
Plus - the Cambie doesn't charge a cover for their Sunday night live music and the happy hour menu is famously cheap (and lasts till 9 pm). Great music, with no cover and a super cheap happy hour - this is a rare combination in Vancouver - come and enjoy it.
We have two tables reserved for 5:30, which will give us some time to chat before the music starts. Based on past experience, I expect the place to start filling up quickly around 5:30 to 6. If there aren't enough people to fill our two tables by 6:00 pm, I might give one up out of consideration for the venue.
The band usually plays three sets between 7 and 10 pm, but you might wish to leave earlier. For more info about The Cambie Pub, including the menu, see the Cambie's website.
Please note: This event is a duplicate of one previously posted elsewhere and is already full. If you sign up for this event and were not previously registered, I will move you to the waiting list. Sorry!

Enjoy hellebores and crocuses at VanDusen Botanical Garden
VanDusen Botanical Garden, 5151 Oak Street, Vancouver, BC, CALet's get together to enjoy some early spring colour and budding leaves at the lovely VanDusen Botanical Garden. My hellebores have been out for a while and I'm sure the same is true of VanDusen's collection, which I've not yet seen and don't want to miss. I'm also hoping/expecting to see daffodils, crocuses (croci?), grape hyacinth, camellia and heather, among other early spring bloomers. VanDusen says their earliest variety of cherry tree is also now in bloom (Prunus subhirtella ‘Whitcomb’).
We'll meet at 2:30 in the main hall by the admission desks. Depending on how many attend and what we all feel like at the time, we can either wander together or independently and then meet afterwards to compare notes and photos and enjoy something warm to drink. VanDusen's cafe is open for business.
To give you a better idea of what's to be seen there at this time of year, peruse these suggestions from VanDusen for a self-guided Feb-March walking tour or check out their hellebores short from late March last year.
Cost: VanDusen charges $11.19 for adults at this time of year and $8.95 for senior adults. Or free if you have a pass (well worth it if you like plants). Info on all that here.
Weather note: As with any outdoor event, this one is weather dependent. I'm on the wimpy side when it comes to enjoying (or not) walking around in wet, chilly weather. So far, the 14-day forecast calls for a mix of sun and cloud on this date. I will update closer to the time.
