West End Happy Hour Thursday - Another Age Related Celebration
Details
The Thursday West End Happy Hour has been running successfully for almost a year now. Same event, wonderful new posting home. If you’re new to this, please do read all the below expansive verbiage. We are a very friendly and welcoming bunch so no need to be nervous about coming along for the first time.
Occasionally, such as this coming Thursday, we celebrate birthdays but as we are over 50 and somewhat beyond, we prefer to refer to these as age related events……. It’s Lynda’s turn to be add another year lived.
Let’s start off with a simple middle of the road venue in our new Meet Up group that should broadly appeal to all, Joey Bentall. This is the one at the corner of 507 Burrard and W Pender, not the other one further up Burrard which lead to some brief comic confusion last time we went here.
Coffee at 1:30 will be at Funk prior to HH. Decent coffee with big enough tables to accommodate us all hopefully. Then just a very short walk to Joeys where reserved tables await us at 3 pm.
A new Meet Up Group but an old and well attended event so some hopefully helpful pointers for potential newbies whom may want some more details before coming along.
If this is the first time you’ve seen this event or you’ve always wanted to come but were a little hesitant to join us, we are very genuinely a group of easy going people who will ensure any newcomers are more than welcome and made to feel comfortable and at home as soon as you sit down. Talk as much or as little as you want. This isn’t about drinking solidly for 3 hours of happy hour bargain prices, just a gathering of lovely people who love good company and $6 glasses of wine and/or beer. Attending an event for the first time can be like your first day at a new school, standing on the edge of the playground waiting for eye contact. We will welcome you with open arms to come and join us on the swings or in the sandbox as soon as we meet you.
There hardly any rules for the Happy Hour event. Join coffee or drinks only. Join both. Turn up whenever you want. Wear whatever you want. Turn up with whomever you want. Latecomers are always welcomed, never judged. No 7 strikes and you’re out. It’s a weekday late afternoon event and life happens, just let me know if you can’t make it so we don’t have to save a seat for you. Bring a guest. Be a guest only and message me directly if you are not yet a member of the group but would like to try first before you buy. I remember the tentative terror of attending my first event!!
The only rule is please steer clear of any and all strong political views.
And finally beware, once happy hour ends at 6, there always a few of us who move on to another venue for another glass of wine or a glamorous cocktail or two if you should feel brave enough to join!!
I, and all in the group, very much look forward to meeting and welcoming new people into what is really a lovely, comfortable and fun way to spend a Thursday afternoon.
