December 2014 Drupal Meetup
Hosted by Southern Colorado Drupal Users Group
Details
New date. At our November meeting, we decided to skip our January meeting, so we're having our December meeting a little later in the month.
New location. I recently visited the 21st Century Library. It's a venue you all should become familiar with. It's fantastic. I've attached photos (https://www.meetup.com/Southern-Colorado-Drupal-Users-Group/photos/25734945/).
Unique presentation. Here's a talk everyone can relate to. Getting started in Drupal by Michael Williams. After Mike's talk, we'll have some more in-depth technical info. To be announced.
Drupal from Scratch. On a whim I waltzed into Monarch Digital about a month ago with a resume in hand. I had no prior professional programming experience and I had taught myself languages via books and online resources such as Codecademy and Lynda.com. I had never used the Unix command line, but I had a makeshift website up that was designed to drive traffic to my you tube channel about Digital Audio (The site was hand coded and very time consuming).
Then, Monarch formally interviewed me, decided to train me for a week, and showed me Drupal.
During the week I stayed for an hour after work, during which Rick and the team tested my mettle in learning new technologies. They wanted to see if I was competent enough to do the work they do and make sure I fit into the company culture. On that Friday I was informed I would undergoing a 6 month internship.
The team (especially Rick) was skeptical at first, however they have been very accommodating to someone with no prior history within Linux or Drupal itself.
For the past month I’ve been carefully guided as I dove head-first into Linux Ubuntu 14.04LT, Drupal 7, PHP, Git, Drush, and MySql.
My presentation will be going over my first experiences in developing themes for Drupal within my own personal Digital Audio website, Audio-Phreak.com, which is now using Drupal. My main focus will be how I created the theme for the site, along with answering any beginner questions.
Food. Sorry. No food in the library. If anyone would like to meet somewhere to get a bite before the meeting, comment below.
