February 2015 Southern Colorado Drupal Meetup
Details
Web hosting infrastructure meets web development process with platform.sh (https://platform.sh/). The goal of this new hosting platform, built by Commerce Guys, is to completely streamline and integrate the entire process of web development, from initial concept through deployment and beyond into maintenance and upgrades.
With platform.sh, each git branch in the repository corresponds to a unique environment that serves as a clone of its parent branch. This simple system allows for workflows as simple as Production > Staging > Dev, or as complex as you want your workflow, with release branches, feature branches, developer branches, etc... Platform.sh also brings the workflow down to your local machine.
In this meetup, Winn from Oxbow Labs (http://www.oxbowlabs.com) will walk through the creation of a new website in platform.sh, demonstrate branch creation, localhost workflow, configuration of environment-specific variables, environment synchronization, deployment via Drush Make files, drush aliases, environment-level permissions (for worry-free outsourced labor).
You can either follow along and contribute to the development of our test site, or just sit back and soak it in.
We will also compare and contrast our experience with platform.sh over the past few months with BlackMesh, which we have used for the past few years (and continue to use). The transition to platform.sh has not been without its speed bumps, but when has switching hosting providers ever been all unicorns and rainbows?
Commerce Guys have graciously offered up a free month subscription to any participant (and may send over some swag !?)
