Climate Change Impacts on Maine Wildlife

You’ve probably seen signs of global warming already—more ticks to worry about, fewer days to ski or ice fish, new garden pests, and increasingly unpredictable lobster harvest, maple syrup production, and growing seasons.

But what about the impact of climate change on Maine’s native wildlife?
The Natural Resources Council of Maine and Maine Audubon are teaming up to bring a panel of Maine scientists together to discuss the impacts of and what we can do to fight climate change. Panelists and topics include:

· Dr. Mark Green, St. Joseph’s College, the impact on marine shellfish;

· Steve Walker, Maine Coast Heritage Trust, Maine’s statewide assessment of the vulnerability of wildlife species and habitats;

· Dr. Brian Olson, University of Maine in Orono, the impacts of climate change on birds;

· NRCM Clean Energy Director Dylan Voorhees, how the U.S. is addressing climate change—and what more we can do.
