Sheila Kennedy, FAIA, is a founding partner of Kennedy & Violich Architecture Ltd. (KVA, Boston) (http://www.kvarch.net/), an interdisciplinary design practice that explores architecture, digital technology, materials science research, and sustainability. Currently a Professor of Architecture at MIT, she directed Harvard’s M. Arch program from 1991-1995. She has served as an advisor to the U.S. Department of Energy and is the author of multiple patents for the integration of digital technologies into architecture, building material and textiles, receiving a U.S. Congressional Award for the design of energy harvesting solar textile kits. KVA’s cutting edge architecture has received numerous awards including a national Honor Award from the AIA for their East 34th Street Ferry Terminal in New York.
Sheila will focus on how alternative materials impact architecture, a topic her firm explores through MATx (http://www.kvarch.net/research), the interdisciplinary research unit at KVA. Working with industry leaders and public agencies at all scale, the firm creates breakthrough designs that advance the sustainable use of new and existing materials.
Cocktails and light appetizers will be provided. Space is limited, please RSVP here (http://info.pella.com/sheilakennedy).
