Hosted by Belfast City Hall
Details
Taking place from 12pm right through to 6pm, this FREE festival promises to be a huge celebration of Dublin music legend Luke Kelly, through an engaging and entertaining mix of live music performances, interesting discussion sessions and family friendly arts & crafts.
“When you mention Dublin and music in the same sentence, Luke Kelly is one of the first names that springs to mind,” said the Lord Mayor of Dublin Daithí de Róiste. “He is a legend in this city and beyond. So I am absolutely delighted that we are honouring him in this way, by holding a festival dedicated to both himself and his music. There’s only one Luke Kelly!”
As a nod to his inner-city roots, the Luke Kelly Festival will take place at Dublin’s famous Smithfield Square and boasts a thoughtfully curated programme, suitable for fans of all ages along with anyone who wishes to learn more about the inspiring Dublin native. Put together by artist MacDara Yeates and author Leagues O’Toole, in liaison with Paula McCann representing the Luke Kelly family, each aspect of the day has been included to give attendees a real insight into the life and loves of Luke Kelly, along with a taste of inner-city Dublin - a unique mix of cultures, coupled with an inimitable wit and passion that the area and those who inhabit it are famous for.
Throughout the day, live music will be on offer on the main stage with performances scheduled from Damien Dempsey with songs from Luke’s repertoire and former Dubliners member Sean Cannon with some old favourites from The Dubliners back catalogue. Expect some surprise appearances on the day by a selection of well known, extra special guest singers and musicians, spanning several generations, performing a selection of Luke Kelly favourites for your listening pleasure.
We can meet up depending who is there or not
