A weekend in the Supes! It's been a while since I've made it down this way, so why not give it a whirl? It's right in your backyard!
The Supes are a fantastically weathered desert landscape crossed by canyons and punctuated by dramatic desert peaks and pinnacles.
We will meet at the Peralta Trailhead. I will be coming down from Flagstaff, if anybody wishes to carpool they are more than welcome. If anybody wishes to arrange carpooling with each other, please try to arrage so in the comments!
The first day is a long 14.25 mile hike, this is all desert hiking so bring plenty of water and salty, high-energy snacks. Be confident in your ability to put down these miles at a decent (at least 2mph) pace. We will go up Peralta Canyon and swing around through La Barge Canyon and camp at Oak Spring where there is water to filter and space to spread out.
The second day is a shorter 8.5 mile hike out. There should be some fantastic views and once we're done, those that wish can all meetup and grab some well deserved food!
As this is desert hiking, the water situations are sparse, but these canyons usually hold water almost all years excepting particularly dry ones. Carry several liters of water! Most importantly enjoy yourselves! THis is a fun activity, but it can get strenuous and tiring, so also bring a positive attitude and willingness to get lost in the scenery and meditation of the trail!
This is the route. You can download it to use in the GPS device/app of your choice! I highly recommend this in case you become separated. Pay attention to the elevation profiles and trails.
