Wiki Loves Monuments Photo Scavenger Hunt

Details

Wiki Loves Monuments (http://wikilovesmonuments.us/) is an international photography contest that is taking place in September. All it takes is a camera and the internet—take some photos of a monument or two and upload them to Wikimedia Commons (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page) to enter the contest! There will be chances to win both nationally and internationally; the winners of the national contest will go on to be judged with other nations' winners by an international panel. Even if you're not in it to win, taking pictures of monuments and uploading them to Wikimedia Commons is a great way to make them available to people around the world!

We will be meeting up and then dispersing to various places around the city to take pictures of monuments and places in DC with only poor quality photographs at the moment.

If you're curious about the monuments around you, Wikimedians have already put together a list of monuments (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_National_Register_of_Historic_Places_listings) by state and territory, and you can see everything that's ripe for photographing in your area!

Throughout the month of September, we will be hosting a series of meetups in public places to upload pictures, edit articles, and hang out. Just bring your computer, camera, and connecting cord from your camera to your computer, and join us!

The Wikipedia page for this meetup is here (http://wikimediadc.org/wiki/Wiki_Loves_Monuments_Photo_Drives), sign up and let us know you're coming, walk-ins are also welcome!

At 5 PM we'll all be meeting At Busboys and Poets at V and 14th St NW to eat and upload our day's work!
