Experience the thrill of seeing the City of Boston anew in a way you’ve never seen it before: through the eyes of photojournalist and Pulitzer Prize Winner Essdras M Suarez.
Essdras’ approach and teaching method on the how and what of documenting a city and its people is strictly hands on where the participants learn to deal with whatever lighting, weather, or any other situation as it might present itself in front of your lens.

Learn from Essdras the meaning of the same mantra he uses when he is doing his job in the streets of Boston or far-flung places around the world: “Keep moving, keep shooting, keep adjusting.”
You will learn to react to what is in front of you and to make the most out of any given situation. “As a photojournalist I don’t have the luxury of doing much post production work on my images. Therefore I have to make it count when things are happening.”
Essdras will teach you how to assess a situation or subject when it matters the most: When things are happening or are right in front of your lens. “There’s a high degree of satisfaction when you successfully capture the essence of a moment or a place just by paying attention to the details.”
The day will start early at Hay Street Market with its produce, fruit and fish vendors and the many characters who come to this miasma of daily life.
From there we will walk through the North End, catch breakfast in one of the local coffee shops, document this classic Old-World neighborhood as it wakes up and as the tour groups start flooding the streets.
We will then make our way to the Beacon Hill area and photograph the quaint character of this world-renown slice of Boston. We will observe and document life around Downtown Crossing and we’ll end up at the Boston Common and Public Garden area.
We’ll stop for lunch at one of the many eateries around the Common and Garden area. We will finish our day photographing street life in the Back Bay area and the Christian Science Plaza area.
