C++ Coding DoJo

Details

This month we will be getting our hands dirty with some C++ code using a popular technique known as a DoJo. We will use http://cyber-dojo.org to provide us all with a common web based development environment (editor, build scripts, compiler, test framework, problem description) to work from. We will be paired up with one (or two) other people and a computer. (So, if you have a computer, please bring it. It doesn't have to be fancy or have C++ installed since we are using the website that already provides the C++ coding environment.)

Everyone will be presented with the same problem and asked to solve it using any technique that they choose. At the end of the night, we will ask for volunteers to present their solution and we will allow others to provide some constructive comments (friendly peer review). We are going to encourage people to use a test driven development approach (using GoogleTest), but people won't be forced to use it if they don't want to.

A week or two before the meetup, I will post two or three problems that we will consider tackling so that people that want to start thinking about the problem can do so. So, come back to the MeetUp.com site (or subscribe to notifications) to find out what problems we are going to work.

When we pair up, we will try to match strong C++ developers with others that are still learning. We may also swap paired partners around after completing one of the exercises (we'll just see how time goes).

I'm really looking forward to this and from learning a little something from you all.
