Advanced Map Reading and Navigation weekend - Malham (Yorkshire Dales)
Details
Over the weekend of 28 Sept we will be heading up to Malham in The Yorkshire Dales Why Malham? 300ft high cliffs, deep valleys, gorges with 200ft rock walls, rolling hills, lakes and an abundance of other map features all add up to making the Malham area of North Yorkshire the best easily accessible navigation training area in England. Over the weekend you will learn various methods of safely navigating around difficult terrain in the company of a “fully qualified” instructor, whilst gaining valuable experience in contour interpretation and advanced compass techniques. You will also be introduced to a number of relocation techniques for those (hopefully brief) moments when you’re not quite sure of your location. (Optional) For a few hours on Saturday evening we will be out learning and practicing night navigation. You don't need to participate in this activity, but this really may come in useful one day !! Cost £130 per person Includes: All training with “fully qualified and insured” instructor Equipment – maps/compass etc. NNAS (Silver) assessment and all associated fees Maximum participants = 6 Do you need accommodation? There are many, many inexpensive local hotels in the area – e.g. (at the time of writing) the Skipton Travel Lodge is £35 per night for a single or twin room
