Mysticism and Meditation Group

Details

Every great religious or spiritual tradition has had their share of mystics and meditators - even if they had different names for those traditions and practices! This group explores the truth that we all are potential mystics, and that the avenue to mysticism is the contemplative and meditative arts. Learning to focus our attention is the basis for the encounter with the transcendent - regardless of what name we use for the transcendent! Whether we are looking for God, the universe, enlightenment, nirvana, Allah, Yahweh, the Great Spirit, the Flying Spaghetti Monster, or any other bearer of transcendent Divinity, the pathway is paved with spiritual practice.

Our meetings in this group start with a brief talk of approximately fifteen minutes that has as its focus some aspect of mysticism. We then spend approximately twenty minutes in a meditation practice. We will use a number of different meditation techniques over the weeks. After our seated meditation we will have five minutes of walking meditation to get our blood flowing again, followed by a discussion of the evening or any aspect of mysticism and meditation.

You don't need to be a member of any specific religious or spiritual tradition to participate, and our practices are compatible with any spiritual or religious view. There is no cost for our programs, but free will donations to defer the cost of the space are gratefully accepted. We have tea, coffee, and water at every session, and occasionally a snack.
