Chronic Pain and Chronic Illness Spiritual Support Group

Details

This group is for anyone struggling with chronic pain or a chronic illness. Our perspective is spiritual, but not religious. We recognize that any chronic condition wears us down not just physically and emotionally, but spiritually as well. We gather together for mutual support, to share our stories not just of our struggles but also of our successes. Perhaps most importantly, through our sharing we come to see that we are not alone! Each session begins and ends with a brief guided meditation to center us. This is your group, and we are open to suggestions!

Our facilitator is Craig Bergland, EFR. Craig was born and raised in the Milwaukee area, graduated Summa Cum Laude with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Theology and Psychology from Wisconsin Lutheran College, and earned a Master of Divinity and Doctor of Divinity from The Anglican Divinity School. He is a certified Spiritual Guide; the founder and Guardian of The EFR, an interfaith new monastic community based on the work of St. Francis of Assisi as it applies to the spiritual but not religious world; the founder of The UAC, an Interspiritual alternative denomination focusing on the "church" of the future; and locally the founder of the Compassionate Heart Community, where he teaches meditation and spirituality. In addition to his background in Christianity, he has been a student of Buddhism since 1999, and took Buddhist refuge vows in 2009. Craig is also a chronic pain patient, so he understands the struggles of those with chronic illness.

There is no charge for this group, but your generosity in defraying the cost of the room is greatly appreciated! No one will be turned away because of inability to contribute, and beverages will be available.
