Common Meal and Coffeehouse on Pentecost

http://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/8/1/d/a/event_233673242.jpegSince May 19th is Pentecost, we are having a common meal, Eucharist, and coffeehouse on the themes that come to mind when we think of Pentecost the day before. The first few chapters of Acts present quite a contrasting vision of the disciples compared to the readings we did during holy week. During holy week (just before Easter), we had our own "Maundy Tuesday" common meal, Tennebrae (extinguishing the candles), and Communion. The traditional readings for that commemoration really emphasize the disorganization, selfishness, and corruption of the disciples. That gave us the idea of talking about the disciples transformation during and after Pentecost. The comparison will help us see the themes of Pentecost more clearly.
We are still planning the event, but we'll light the candles back up for Pentecost (Holy Spirit comes as a flame of fire, sort of like a candle flame) and include Eucharist.
Participation: If you have any ideas about poems, scriptures, paintings, stories, songs, etc. let me know. Also, it will be interesting to talk about what Pentecost (the early Acts stories) means to the different members of our group. The first chapters of Acts have been instrumental in guiding different visions of Christian belief and community over the centuries.
Music: As usual, our house musicians will be leading us with song.
Food: We'll have some kind of combination with chicken and pasta. If you can bring a salad or side dish that would be great! Please put that in your RSVP line.
Location: For May, we'll have our gathering in the "community/fireplace room" space of the Church of the Pilgrims. It's about two blocks west from the north Dupont Exit on Q street. There's a parking lot at one end of the property for 20 cars.
