About us
What We’re About
This meetup is a group where those 50 and over can socialize and get to know each other!
We go for coffee or dinner and are always trying new venues, pubs or cafes in the greater Nanaimo area. Hikes takes place regularly all over the island! We take advantage of the active arts scene our city offers and often host plays, concerts and music festivals. And then there are the occasional opportunities to try something new, such as archery or kayaking and we are always looking for suggestions or hosts to experience new things. We welcome you to join us for our next event, meet new people, experience something new and most importantly, have fun!
What the Group Will Do for You:
The purpose of our events is to give you the opportunity to socialize with others who share similar interests or learn something new. If your goal is to have a future that is meaningful and growth-oriented, being part of our group may help you achieve that!
What You Can Do for the Group:
Bring your fun-loving, healthy attitude. Be committed to showing up when you have signed up for events and be respectful of other members. We require that your profile includes a clear picture of yourself so others can identify you at our events.
Terms of Service:
By accessing and using the service of the Meetup platform, you agree to be bound by the following terms and conditions.
Disclaimer:
In no event will anyone be liable to any party for any direct, indirect, consequential, or other damages arising from attending an event. Attendance is at your own risk. The organizer, co-organizer, host, and Meetup, are not responsible for loss, damage, theft, injury to oneself or equipment, allergic reactions, or traffic violations.
Membership & Annual Dues:
To keep our community active and cover the costs of the MeetUp platform, we collect a small annual membership fee.
* Annual Dues: $17.00 CAD per person.
* The "Test Drive": Your first event is always free! We want you to come out and meet us before committing.
* Timeline: Dues are kindly requested within 30 days of joining the group to maintain an active membership status.
* How to Pay:
We do not use the automated MeetUp/Stripe payment system to avoid unnecessary processing fees and exchange rates. You can pay via:
A) E-Transfer: Send to [cku123@me.com](mailto:cku123@me.com.)
** IMPORTANT: You must include your FULL NAME and "MEETUP 2026" in the e-transfer notes so we can verify your payment.
B) Cash: Hand-to-hand at the next event you attend.
Membership is updated manually. We track paid memberships offline and, once payment is received, you will get a confirmation message.
Guest Policy:
We would like to see the group grow and will open up events to guests but this will be specifically outlined in the event. Any event that has a maximum allowance will only open up to guests if there is space.
Attendance Limitations:
Our restaurant events are limited to ten members, sometimes 12 depending on the venue, which we find is most conducive to enjoyable comradery allowing everyone to join in on mutual conversations. In addition, it's a great way to get to know one another. So please be courteous and remove your RSVP if your plans change, so someone else can take your place.
RSVP Etiquette:
If you can’t attend an event you have registered for, please have the courtesy to update your RSVP as soon as possible so others on the waitlist have a chance to take your place. This should be done no later than the day before the event to give people appropriate notice to attend if they are waiting.
Cancellations made within 8 hours of the scheduled event will be considered a "No-Show." After 2 "No-Shows" your right to reserve a spot will be revoked for 3 months.
Host Your Own Event!
Do you have a great idea for a social gathering, a new hiking trail to explore, or a favorite local spot for a gathering? We would love to see more member-led events! If you are interested in hosting, please send me an email at cku123@me.com or by text/call at 604-809-5775 with the event name, venue, date and time, maximum number of attendees, and any costs or special conditions members should know. Once I have those details, I will create a draft for your review, post it to our MeetUp site, and announce it to the entire group via email.
Let’s work together to add some exciting new activities to our calendar!
