Cardio Hike: Oso Ridge / Embudito (4 miles)
Details
Bring a headlamp.
Because of rain canceling several people's plan to participate in our Tuesday cardio hike this week, we are expanding the scope of Thursday's Oso Ridge cardio hike by adding the option of ascending either via the Oso Ridge trail (lead by Christophers) or to hike to the same turnaround point via the Embudito trail (lead by David). Both hikes will start at the same time/place, will hike for about 2 miles to meet at our common Embudito trail turnaround point, and then leave at the same time to descend back to the Embudito trailhead and parking area. On the way down hikers will be able to chose which of the two trails/groups they wish to return to the Embudito parking area via/with.
For those choosing the Oso Ridge option:
Distance: 4 miles
Elevation gain: 1,680 feet
For those choosing the Embudito option:
Distance: 4.2 miles
Elevation gain: 1,200 feet
The Oso Ridge route is slightly more difficult than our typical Embudito Cardio Hike because of the initial rate of climb of Oso Ridge. Likewise, the total climb is greater via Oso Ridge than that of the normal Embudito Trail (but it offers better views ;). Finally, there are a couple of points on the Oso Ridge trail that might require a small amount of "rock scrambling".
The Oso Ridge option is ideal for normal or faster paced hikers – while the Embudito trail is good for hikers of all paces. As with our other cardio hikes, the goal of this hike is to have the opportunity to improve fitness and to prepare for longer day hikes. You will likely find hikers with a similar pace, but may also find yourself hiking alone, particularly if you have not been hiking recently. Because of this, being familiar with the trail in advance is strongly encouraged. Please contact me directly or post in the comments if you have questions.
