Chimney Canyon to 10K trailhead via Del Agua Overlook

Chimney Canyon is one of the steeper but more spectacular trails to the top of Sandia Crest. Let's get out and hike it while we still have the window of fantastic weather that we've had for the last several days!

This is a single-direction hike starting from the bottom of the Old La Luz trail (Drinking Fountain trailhead) to the Chimney Canyon trail connection point from where we will ascend Chimney Canyon to its intersection with the North Crest trail. From there we will head north to the Del Agua Overlook where we will pick up the 10K trail heading south to the 10K trailhead. The hike organizer will coordinate staging a pick-up vehicle at the 10K trailhead to shuttle us back to the cars left at the Old La Luz trailhead (Drinking Fountain trailhead).

[Normally this hike would be scheduled to descend via La Luz/Old La Luz to the original starting location, but the Sandia Switchback Closure of Sandia Crest has closed the connecting trails. Instead we'll be treated to views of the North Crest that are normally not seen by those hiking the west face of the Sandias.
