Steamed Up! SF2926 Steam Locomotive NM Railroad Days at South Rail Yards

Steam locomotive SF2926 will be fully steamed up! Climb aboard into the steam locomotive cab, blow the steam whistle, hear the locomotive bell, watch the crew tend to the fire in the boiler, ride historic track motorcars, see vintage railcars, get photos with the steam locomotive, peruse local vendors, live music, & food trucks at New Mexico Heritage Railroad Days Celebration at the South Rail Yards, south of the Wheels Museum, 1300 south 2nd St SW in Albuquerque. on September 27, 10 am to 6 pm & Sunday, September 28, 10 am to 2 pm. (On Sunday, you can stroll on the wide sidewalk of the Albuquerque Rail Trail from the Wheels Museum to the ABQ Railyards Market to visit the blacksmiths shop & other buildings where vendors tempt you with their wares such as fresh baked goods, etc.) Event is free. Free parking.

Train Safety:
✅ Stay Off the Tracks. Never trespass on railroad property. Tracks, yards, rights-of-way are private property & dangerous.
✅ Keep Back 25 Feet. Always stay at least 25 feet from the rails & moving equipment.
✅ Use Designated Viewing Areas. The best photos (& memories) come from safe, public spaces.
✅ Obey Crews & Volunteers. Follow instructions from NMHR staff & event partners for everyone’s safety.

⚠️ Movement Notice: The 2926 will move to the Albuquerque South Rail Yards sometime Friday afternoon. The exact time is not scheduled. the move will occur at the convenience of the railroad so as not to impact regular train operations. The return trip back to the restoration site will also occur Sunday afternoon after the close of New Mexico Railroad Days, again at the convenience of the railroad.
