General Meeting Format

Introduction

Introduce yourself and woodworking level and interests.

Main Event - Decorate / beautify your projects, your wood belongings including paddles, or create your own signs. Demo and Talk on Woodburning, technically known as Pyrography, by John Hammond. Pyrography can also be done on leather and bone, as well as other materials but this demo is about wood!

Types of burners – inexpensive and professional

Types of wood – light colored even grain – some maple, birch, aspen if you can get it, some lumber yard SPF can also work. Some birch plywood if the surface veneer is thick enough.

Safety – electrical cords, ventilation, masks in a heavy burn and sanding, posture.

Surface prep.

Sources of artwork – internet images, coloring books, or draw your own, photos on plane paper Magazines.

Transferring the image to the wood.

Burning the image – tip types and uses, shading (stippling. Crosshatching), shaded burn, texturing, specialized tips, fine lining and writing tips, making your own tips.

Temperature with higher end sets.

Fixing mistakes and clean up.

Fixing the image and finishing.

Club Business

A short section to take care of any club business.

Show and Tell

Michele will be bringing a serving board, purchased on a recent trip from a BC Artist that shows a different form of woodburning done with high voltage electricity known as Fractal wood burning, also known as creating Lichtenberg figures.

Bring a recently completed project, a work in progress or a project you're having trouble completing. if it's too big then bring photos. Tell us a bit about your project such as what inspired it, the wood and tools you used, the finish, any challenges you encountered and what you did to solve them.
