The Sweetwater Wetlands is a lush City of Tucson reclaimed-water facility and wildlife refuge. Dogs, horses, and bikes are completely prohibited here to protect the fragile ecosystem and local wildlife.

  • Trails & Length: There are about 2.5 miles of shaded pathways, which are made up of crushed gravel and a short section of paved, ADA-accessible concrete. The main, scenic loops are about 1.1 to 1.2 miles each.
  • Shade: Yes, there is great shade! The park is surrounded by large, mature trees that offer decent cover, along with viewing platforms and shaded ramadas.
  • Rules: Pets, bicycles, and wading are strictly prohibited.
  • Details: It is incredibly popular for bird-watching and spotting desert wildlife like ducks, frogs, and turtles. And the Sweetwater bobcat!

I have never been, it seems like a nice area to beat the the heat, learn about the area and get some steps in.
