Walk the Anza Trail with a Local

Walk the trail with a local!
I lived in Tubac for almost eight years before moving to Tucson, so come explore one of my favorite local hikes with me before the snowbirds return and the trail gets busy.
We’ll hike one way from Tubac, following the trail into Tumacácori National Historical Park from the west side. The water may be running high, so waterproof shoes and a light jacket are a good idea.
Once we reach the park, we’ll hang out for a bit, explore, and maybe even snag a docent to walk with us. The folks there are always friendly and love sharing the history of the area.
And because we’re already in the neighborhood, we’ll finish with a little side trip into Tubac. Hiking, history, and a bit of local fun. What more do we need?
The 1,200-mile Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail traces the banks of the Santa Cruz River. About four miles of walking trails follow the river between the artsy enclave of Tubac to the north and the Tumacocori National Historic Site to the south. This is a rare stretch of river that offers perennial surface water making it a regular draw for all kinds of wildlife.
