This event is scheduled for late in the month, so that we have all had a chance to replenish funds after the draining lockdown! By this time we have all had enough of the lockdown trauma and are enjoying the possibly temporary reprieve of the Level 1 freedom. So let's get out and catch up with each other and kuier at one of the most beautiful outdoor and wildlife venues right on our doorstep. Cradle Moon Conservancy was created with the sole goal of rehabilitation and environmental ethics. Therefore the flora and fauna come first, they say. The 1 600 hectare Conservancy is made up of the farms of Zwartkop and Driefontein which incorporate Cradle Moon Lakeside Game Lodge (the old Heia Safari Ranch), Ekudeni, Eduzani, Bell Gables, Aloe Ridge, Riverview Spa, Glenburn Lodge and Kloofzicht Lodge. Plenty wildlife species abound, including rhino, leopard, eland, kudu, red hartebeest, black wildebeest, blue wildebeest, zebra, duiker, impala, springbuck, blesbuck, aardwolf, and even predators such as brown hyaena and jackal. Cradle Moon is also well known for its beautiful lake. The Franz Richter dam wall stands 20m high, 300m wide, and just short of 10m thick at the base. All the stones used during the construction were found on site in spots now visible as coves on the sides of the lake. When the wall was completed in 2006, it filled in only four days thanks to a week of torrential rain, and the water level has hardly dropped since then. Built on the Crocodile River, it is a testament to Franz’s foresight and determination to provide the property with a natural water feature that would attract guests as well as various species of water birds. And since then it has attracted its fair share of both. Join us for lunch at the main restaurant next to the pool. The idea is to make our way down to the newly added and very beautiful Current Restaurant which is situated right on the lake later in the afternoon. Those of us who can stay that long can take in a sundowner or two here, and enjoy the superb scenery… The restaurant offers a comprehensive menu with a large range of reasonably priced meals. PLEASE NOTE: AN EVENT FEE OF R 10.00 WILL APPLY. In this way active members who attend events are able to contribute towards the annual group subscription fee that is paid to the MeetUp Organisation by the Organiser. Kindly pay your event host upon arrival - much appreciated! Also, a R 30.00 Conservancy Fee is collected at the gate. See you there! Tel:[masked] /[masked]
THIS ITEM (= NON-EVENT, NOT REQUIRING RSVPs) WILL BE REPEATED EVERY NOW AND THEN TO ALERT ESPECIALLY NEW MEMBERS ABOUT THIS SCAM. IF YOU HAVE BEEN APPROACHED, SIMPLY IGNORE THE PERSON AND REPORT THEIR NAME AND SOME DESCRIPTION OF THEIR PROFILE PICTURE IN THE PUBLIC COMMENT SECTION ON THIS PAGE. I WILL THEN REMOVE THEM FROM THE ENTIRE 50+ FUN ZONE MEMBERSHIP LIST). Don't think it won't happen to you! Many, many savvy, highly educated professional people who are generally scam and crime alert have been swindled out of millions by these extremely crafty and well-trained scamsters! Here is a very informational website created and managed by a normal, alert professional person, just like you and me.... It is worth a visit: https://www.skywomen.co.za/about.html From time to time our social group - along with many other MeetUp groups and dating sites - is infiltrated and irritated by scamsters who target gullible women (although a few men have also been approached). We have managed to get rid of a lot of them since July last year, notably through active information dissemination, but the trend is continuing again. The scamsters approach members of the group with a dimwitted sentence such as 'Your looking great Samantha, you like to chat?', or simply 'Hi Kim'. To sharp and alert people the rotten English is already a dead giveaway of something smelly and unsavoury brewing. (Or of an exceptionally dull individual that should be avoided anyway). Their strategy is then to engage in friendly, seemingly innocuous online conversation for while, during which time personal information is obtained and a 'trust relationship' built. Then one day, out of left field you are craftily scammed out of a hefty sum through an other-wordly tale of woe or sudden calamity that hits your new 'friend'. Fortunately most South Africans are wide awake when it comes to scams, but these guys can be VERY creative and convincing. So unless you are adventurous and have money to burn, BEWARE OUT THERE! Best policy is to never respond to direct messages of any kind via MeetUp email unless you have met the person at one of our events. Please keep reporting any incidents on this page - as a service to other 50+ FUN ZONERS - and I will remove them immediately! If you block them, they are simply blocked from contacting you, but can still pester other members.
Barnyard is proud to be hosting Watershed’s 20 year anniversary show. This will be an unforgettable night, up close and personal with one of SA’s most loved bands. All your favourite songs from the last 2 decades including Indigo Girl, Close My Eyes, In the Meantime, Letters and more. Acoustic rock outfit Watershed emerged as one of the most successful South African exports of their generation when the single ‘Indigo Girl’ topped the German pop charts. Formed in Johannesburg in 1998, Watershed was started by singer/songwriter Craig Warren Hinds. With the supporting cast that incuded guitarist Paul McIver , bassist Vernon Hodgetts , drummer Tulsa Pittaway and viola player Lizzie Rennie. The group signed to EMI South Africa in 1999, issuing ‘In the Meantime’ the following year. The debut single ‘Shine on Me’ launched the group to national stardom, and the follow-ups ‘Indigo Girl’ and ‘Letters’ made them superstars. A German radio DJ on holiday in South Africa heard ‘Indigo Girl’ and upon returning home, began spinning the single on Germany's SWR3. The record emerged as a left-field blockbuster throughout Europe, and vaulted them to international renown. They launched the 2003 follow-up ‘Wrapped in Stone’ at an all-star concert in Johannesburg's Nelson Mandela Square. The first album to feature keyboardist Graham Smith, it was also the last to include McIver, who at year's end exited to make way for guitarist Nic Rush. Hinds again reshuffled the line-up to produce 2005's album Mosaic. Here only Rush remained from the previous incarnation, with bassist Ozzy, keyboardist Hylton Brooker and drummer Peter Auret completing the band. Rennie rejoined the ranks in April 2006. Watershed are 21 years in the making and nowhere near ready to go quiet…. In order to make the event and especially the travel to the venue worthwhile, we will have a light dinner beforehand. These arrangements will be made later, depending on the member interest. R[masked] per person. Due to the popularity of this band, BOOKINGS MUST BE CONFIRMED AND PAID by 18 November. I will send payment details to Yes RSVPs by 13 November 2020. Tel:[masked]
