Landmark's Bethesda Row Cinema

WASHINGTON JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL DOLCE FINE GIORNATA Dir. Jaceck Borcuch | 90 min Narrative Poland 2018 Polish/Italian/French with English subtitles East Coast Premiere Sunday, May 19, 5:15 PM Bethesda Row Cinema Buy tickets and reserve seats ahead of time as they will likely sell out: https://www.jxjdc.org/events/dolcefinegiornata/#iframe Krystyna Janda, in a role that won her Best Actress honors at the Sundance Film Festival, plays Maria Linde, a free-spirited, Jewish-Polish Nobel Prize winner who now lives in Tuscany. A loving mother and grandmother, she also fosters a secret flirtation with the much younger Egyptian man who runs a nearby seaside inn. After a terrorist attack in Rome, Maria refuses to succumb to the hysterical fear and anti-immigrant sentiment that quickly emerges, deciding in her acceptance speech of a local honor to boldly decry Europe’s eroding democracy—but she is unprepared for the backlash. After the film, we'll walk to dinner to discuss the movie and socialize.
