After organising 16 Barcamps, we thought we might make this one a little different ...

Announcing MakerCamp 1

There's a new-found interest in Maker-culture, so, following on from MHV (Canberra Hackerspace) we have decided to make the next Barcamp a Makercamp.

Our Makercamp will follow the usual Barcamp format (see below for what Barcamp is) but will be themed around Maker Culture projects. This does not mean hardware/electronics projects only - you can present on a software project but it does have to be linked back to some sort of physical invention or hack.

Some examples of some Makercamp talks/demos might be:

3D Printing & Scanning CNC Machines, Laser Cutters etc Quad/Hexa/Octo - copters High Altitude Balloons High Speed Photography or other interesting ways to hang a camera! Electronics Project, eg. Arduino, Lego Mindstorms Art/Electronics/Computer cross-overs Hacking & Repurposing everyday items. Augmented reality and virtual/physical world overlays (eg. Mindcraft connected hardware) Home Automation If you want to show and tell something, bring it along on the day and we will find a spot for it (Electronic elephants and stuff of similar size will have to be set up out back in the carpark). If you just want to hold a talk about something, write your talk up on the wall when you arrive. Here are some definite talks/demos:

Steve Dalton: HackCNC - ultra low cost CNC/2 axis plotter Anna Gerber: Sewable circuits or making interactive toys David Tangye: Raspberry Pi basics David Lyon: Raspberry-PI and Arduino IO (Chris and Rod have a few surprises each) Everyone bringing in something they made will be guaranteed their own timeslot to present it to the attendees, if they wish, prioritised ahead of talks with no accompanying creation.

Pizza will be provided by a sponsor and we'll have a coffee-van outside from 10:30am for a caffeine hit. The first three dozen coffees are free. Collect your voucher from David T.

Kids are welcome but should be with a parent at all times.

What is Barcamp?

This wikipedia page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BarCamp) describes what Barcamps are. There is also an article written on a Barcamp at Bond Uni (http://files.meetup.com/1456506/2011-06-07_IT_BarCamp%20April_article.pdf) and an associated factsheet (http://files.meetup.com/1456506/2011-06-07_IT_BarCamp_fact%20sheet.pdf).
