In our first-ever 'fireside chat,' we are excited to interview former Canadian National Taekwondo athlete and Founder & CEO of 2020 Armor (http://www.2020armor.com), Ali Ghafour. Join us next Tuesday, April 18 to learn about Ali's entrepreneurial journey, and network with Toronto's sports tech community.
A serial entrepreneur at heart, Ali Ghafour has founded 4 companies, the most recent being Viafoura and 2020 Armor.
He is a business executive with a Computer Science Degree from the University of Toronto. Ali has represented Canada at the highest level of sport for Taekwondo, playing for the Canadian national team for five years. In 2008, he was one of the top four athletes selected compete for Team Canada at London 2008 Summer Olympics.
In addition to an having an illustrious sporting career, Ali has over 15+ years of experience in building businesses, teams and building internet and hardware based products. He has raised over $10M in financing for his businesses and generated millions in revenue for his companies.
Combining his experience in sport and technology, Ali founded 2020 Armor; a sports tech startup that is breaking down the participation barrier to the sport of taekwondo. 2020 Armor has created an electronic vest for taekwondo athletes that makes the in-game scoring easy to understand for the general public (think of the street fighter video game in real life). His ultimate vision is to make taekwondo a professional sport like basketball or soccer.
