[co-learn] DIY Spacecraft Controls (aka: Orientation Thruster) #5

Details

This is the fifth class of our first ever co-learning module. Worry not if you have not been to the previous one(s), this is not your conventional class. So if you missed the previous one(s), don't miss this class! In fact, class might even sound too formal, if you checkout our blog on previous DIY Orientation Thruster classes (http://www.spacetownhall.com/logbook/category/orientation-thruster) you'd see that it's basically a hackday with people helping each other to learn, perhaps it's more like a modern day study group.

We'd like to stress to you that please do not worry about what skills you do not have, for we believe everyone knows something and will find a way to use it for the project. Still unsure? Checkout our 2 liner description on our learning philosophy here: http://www.spacetownhall.com/co-learn.html

Agenda

======

10:15 Doors Open

10:30 Arrive, Get set up and/or Make tea and chat

10:45 Presentation from Ray @TranquilityAero (https://twitter.com/tranquilityaero)

11:00 End of presentation, start of discussion and get going with one or more of the following:

• (for design types) conceptualise and visualise control interfaces for the orientation thruster!

• (for technical types) hands on electronics tinkering using open hardware (Arduino Mega), writing software for sensors and wiring up the solenoids and having a play!

• (for jack of all trades) great, mix and match away!

• OR just come up with new ideas and we'll move them along too

16:30 Retro/Wrap up

17:00 Stay if you want, or go and enjoy Saturday night!

Don't forget your laptop, sketch books etc, you'll need them for looking up information and programming the Arduino or doing any design work. Also feel free to pack some snacks! If you have an arduino or something else that could be useful, feel free to bring them along too.

After-class: If you need brushing up on Arduino, why not look up for Arduino meetup (http://arduino.meetup.com/) around you? Better still, Aruduino nights are happening at the very same venue we are in: https://www.meetup.com/NW-London-Hackers-and-Makers/ (https://www.meetup.com/NW-London-Hackers-and-Makers/) , run by our super helpful co-learner Faraz!

Getting there

==========

Set on the 11th floor, Wembley Point is a towering 1960’s monolith of brutalism with amazing views to boot. We are next door to Stonebridge Park station on the Bakerloo and Overground lines. On Bus routes: 18, N18, 112, 224, 440. At Wembley Point. Just look for a very tall building outside of that station, that's Wembley Point!

Venue

======

The venue is generously sponsored by Create Space (http://createspacelondon.org/), definitely the best equipped and most affordable multi disciplinary open access workshops in London. Where else would you be!
