Aylard Farm to Beechy Head Loop
Hosted by Victoria Active Living Group
Details
Experience this 5.5-km loop trail near East Sooke, British Columbia. Generally considered a moderately challenging route. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime.
The trail begins from the Aylard Farm Trailhead, which can be accessed by following Becher Bay Road just off of East Sooke Road. We will hike from Aylard Farm to Creyke Point and then along the coast trail to the Petroglyphs. Historic petroglyphs can be viewed at Aldridge Point. We will then continue on to Beechy Head. Along the route we will see pocket beaches, rocky bays and tide pools, and views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Olympic Mountains. The return trail on the interior part of the loop from Beechey Head back to Aylard Farm Trailhead is wide, pretty, and quick going.
This moderate hike will take about 2-2 1/2 hours. The route has some steep drop-offs and a rocky, uneven trail along the coast. Shoes with good grip are important as there is some rock scrambling and walking up smooth rocks. To see the petroglyphs closely also requires some scrambling over rocks.
We will meet in the parking lot at Aylard Farm, East Sooke Park between 945 pm and 1000 am. The walk will start promptly at 1000 am. No dogs on this hike please.
