Operation Code DC - Holiday Civic Hackathon

Details

Operation Code and MilSpouse Coders are hosting “A Holiday Hackathon”, a nationwide hackathon to help transitioning military, veterans, military spouses, and our civic hacker allies continue service by making external contributions to America’s Code, made available through Code.gov.

Drinks and light refreshments will be provided Friday evening, and lunch and dinner will be provided to attendees on Saturday.

Participants will form teams and create pull requests against a curated set of issues from repositories indexed on Code.gov. Winners will be judged on code quality and technical achievement, and prizes include Kindles and $50 Amazon gift cards.

The challenge is open to anyone, ranging from developers to designers, over the age of 18 — comprised of teams of three to four — who want to flex their civic hacking muscles and give back through America’s Code. “A Holiday Hackathon” will kick off on Friday, December 7th in Washington DC, at various chapter locations throughout the United States, and online, with introductory comments, curated challenges, and a reception to begin socializing, formulating groups and generating ideas.

After a night of restful sleep, teams will reconvene Saturday morning and engage in civic hacking. Winners and prize announcements will immediately follow presentations.

All code generated for this hackathon will be open source and available for anyone to use or modify. Branches and pull requests shall inherit the license terms of their respective repositories. Participant coordination will be executed through dedicated channels in the Operation Code Slack organization.

Our Washington DC host for the hackathon is General Assembly. By signing up for this event, you consent to receiving news, updates and other information from Operation Code's DC chapter and General Assembly.
