Join us for an evening of hand-lettering, beer and good company! In collaboration with designer and illustrator Manuela Pacheco of Studio Maco www.studio-maco.com/work (http://www.studio-maco.com/work/) , this weeks event will have us trying out new hand-drawn typefaces, practicing our writing skills and learning new styles.
For those un-initiated to the world of 'hand-lettering', what is this skill? Before the age of digital writing people would write, by hand and it was often known as having good penmanship. Another name associated is, 'calligraphy', an art form you will have seen in old texts predominantly written with nib and ink in a distinct style. This is what we most associate with hand drawn text but really any type falls under this title as long as written by hand!
Today we write most of our messages on a screen. It's quicker and quite often easier to read. Recently, almost as a result of loosing touch with the hand-created, there has been a resurgence of hand-lettering art and now under this title all styles of hand-created words are formed. From practicing the earlier styles of calligraphy down to re-interpreting the modern day typefaces we see on screen.
All can be beautiful they just need to be practiced!
No matter what your skill is in this area, from beginner just wanting to find out more, or to those of more experience that want time to perfect those tricky ampersands!
Come and join us over a beer.
