Let us explore the beach and trails of Dead Horse Bay!
It's winter time and we need to go outside and take a HIKE!
We will be hiking/walking/exploring two miles of Dead Horse Bay in Brooklyn!
Dead Horse Bay is known for it's treasures of sea glass and other unique lost nautical artifacts. It was a landfill now turned into a park. It was also once home to a Horse Rendering Factory where deceased horses and their carcasses were used to make glue. Horse remains would float around the bay, thus given the name.
Horse bones and horseshoes can still be found on the beach today.
NOTE: We will be walking on glass and other objects. You may want to wear sturdy shoes/boots. This is an OUTDOOR event and it will be VERY cold, so please dress appropriately for the weather. This event is NOT recommended if you will have difficulty hiking/walking two miles in cold weather. SPF recommended. Hike at your own risk.
BRING A SNACK AND WATER!!
PHOTOGRAPHY: There will be outdoor natural light and you can outfit your equipment for cold conditions. Bring the proper camera backs suitable for the outdoors and hiking.
We will be meeting at the MAIN ENTRANCE RANGER STATION.
The hike will be lead by American Littoral Society naturalist Mickey Maxwell Cohen.
