Come and dance with the 5Rhythms community. 5Rhythms is a structured movement meditation practice. There are no steps to learn. Gabrielle Roth's 5Rhythms wave takes us through the five rhythms of Flowing to Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and then to Stillness.
So this is a group for all those who love or are interested in dancing 5Rhythms. It is a chance to move, dance and connect with others. It is not about dancing to look cool, rather it is your dance, your interpretation.
In a typical session we start with slow gentle music to arrive, stretch and begin to move. The music will then progress through one or more "waves" generally from slow to fast music back to slow forming the basis of the wave. The wave starts with the first rhythm "flowing" and then as we get a stronger beat through "staccato", then getting faster until we go into "chaos", then out into the lighter "lyrical" and then slowing down into "stillness". However don't be concerned if you are dancing the "correct" rhythm as the music played will be your guide, just dance how the music moves you. The possible benefits will be individual to you, but many find dancing the wave allows them a chance to let go, away from the demands of day to day life. Certainly moving in this way can be healthy for the body and your mind too. We try to meet weekly on a Friday evening (but do check meetup dates) at the Refectory in the village of Easebourne near Midhurst. This is a wonderful listed building with a wooden floor.
The group is open to anyone (over the age of 18) and any ability. Just bring yourself and desire to move! The group has been running for a couple of years now and on average we get over 10 people dancing per session, sometime up to 20 people.
We generally dance barefoot, wear comfortable clothing, and bring plenty of water.
