The TOR (The Onion Router) Network is anonymisation and anti-censorship network for both users and servers, that is part of what is called the DeepWeb (a part of the Internet that is not indexed by search engines and not accesible by default). The websites hosted in it form the Onion Darknet. TAILS stands for The Amnesic Incognito Live System and is an (Linux-based) OS that routes all internet traffic through the TOR network and has some very nice (/properly paranoid) features for added security and privacy.

The course/presentation will explain what TOR and TAILS are and how to use them, how they work (in general not-very-technical terms) and it will also describe what the risks, advantages and limits of using them are. Will also include some interesting stories from the history of TOR and some exploits against the network (if time permits). You should really bring:

  • a laptop
  • an empty USB stick (at least 4GB)
  • curiosity *
  • comfortable slippers *
  • Not necessary, but couldn't hurt ...
